When to book ahead, annual events in Chatham-Kent
The weekends that fill our rooms, and the ones worth planning a visit around.
A few weekends a year, Chatham fills up. If you're trying to book a room and we're sold out, this is usually why. And if you're trying to time a visit, these are the weekends worth planning around.
RetroFest, late May
The biggest weekend on our calendar. RetroFest 2026 runs Friday May 22 and Saturday May 23. Downtown Chatham fills with classic cars, live music, food trucks, and several thousand people in vintage clothes, it's the kind of weekend where the smell of vintage exhaust mixes with kettle corn and the conversations on the sidewalk are about chrome and trim packages, not the weather. It's been running for 25 years.
Book by March if you want a room. We're typically full by April.
Canada Day, July 1
Tecumseh Park hosts the main event from late morning through fireworks at dusk. Smaller crowd than RetroFest, but downtown still gets busy. Rooms book up; plan a couple of weeks ahead.
Buxton Homecoming, Labour Day weekend
If you're in town for the Buxton National Historic Site & Museum's Labour Day events, book early. North Buxton is twenty minutes south, but most attendees stay in Chatham proper.
Other weekends worth checking
These don't always recur on the same weekend. Check the official Chatham-Kent events page (chatham-kent.ca/visitck) before you book:
- International Plowing Match. When Chatham hosts the IPM, the town fills for the whole week. Check years in advance.
- Highland Games. Early summer, downtown.
- Maple Syrup Festival. Late winter, regional.
- The Christmas tree lighting on the first Friday of December, downtown.
A few things worth knowing
- For the big weekends, our cancellation window tightens. The booking confirmation will say so.
- We hold a small block of rooms for guests who call directly. If our online booking shows sold out for a festival weekend, call the desk. Sometimes there's still space.
- Restaurant reservations: book the same day you book the room. Dinner at the popular spots downtown disappears for festival weekends two weeks in advance.
